Bada Scenic Area, also known as Malizhai Scenic Area, is located in Yuanyang County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The scenic area focuses on Hani customs, culture, and natural landscapes. The entire area encompasses 17 natural villages, 1,910 households, 10,244 people, and 8,737 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of terraced fields, all of whom are Hani.
The terraced fields in the Bada Scenic Area are vast, spectacular, and feature beautiful lines and a strong sense of three-dimensionality. Starting from the Malizhai River at an altitude of 1,100 meters, thousands of terraces stretch endlessly to the peaks of the mountains at an altitude of 2,000 meters, lifting the Hani villages of Malizhai, Bada, Shangmadian, and Quanfuzhuang high into the sea of clouds.
Standing at the Malizhai Tea Factory and looking out over the terraced fields, the nearly 10,000 mu (approximately 10,000 mu) of rice terraces resemble a vast expanse of shimmering waters, a truly spectacular sight. After 4 p.m., the vast expanse of white gradually turns pink, then red, then pink, then white as the sun sets. It's a perfect place to watch and photograph the terraces transforming with the passing of time.
The subtropical plateau monsoon climate has no distinct seasons and is relatively comfortable, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
The main attractions of the Bada Scenic Area include the Quanfuzhuang, Bada, Malizhai, and Shangmadian Rice Terraces, as well as villages. Furthermore, Bada Rice Terraces, facing east and west, is a sunset spot. The best time to view it is in the evening, when the sun sets and the sky is filled with crimson clouds. Some photographers call it "the sunset glow." It is a famous spot for viewing the sunset, the Hani rice terraces, the sea of clouds, and the villages.
