Mile City shares its name with the Laughing Buddha, Mile, and is praised as an auspicious and blessed place, often known as the Blessed Land of Southern Yunnan. Surrounded by lush greenery, the mountain offers a tranquil and pleasant environment.
Nestled on the hillside, amidst its red walls and yellow tiles, is the Maitreya Temple. Originally built during the Song Dynasty, it was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty, renovated during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, and expanded in 1999. For centuries, it has been a popular Buddhist destination in southeastern Yunnan.

Maitreya Temple in Jinping Mountain Scenic Area boasts the grandeur of the four courtyards: the Great Buddha, the Great Fortune, the Great Hero, and the Great Wisdom. It incorporates the unique images of Maitreya Qampa, Maitreya's Thinking, Maitreya's Immortal Light, Maitreya's Cloth Bag, and Maitreya's Heavenly Crown, making it a grand temple known as the "Maitreya Dojo." The Maitreya Buddha (in the form of a cloth bag), featuring an inscription personally inscribed by Nan Huai-jin, was completed in December 1999. Standing 1,999 centimeters tall, it is the world's largest laughing Buddha, symbolizing the peaceful reunification, prosperity, and strength of the motherland across the centuries.
