According to legend, Lover's Beach is the place where "the goddess Gemu and the god of Houlong Mountain meet". There is more than one Lover's Beach in Lugu Lake, located in Libai, Liangshan, Sichuan and Luoshui, Ninglang, Yunnan. The Lover's Beach in Luoshui is called "Lover's Tree" because the trees by the lake grow in pairs, resembling lovers, and the beach got its name from this.

Legend has it that every year on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, the Houlong Mountain God and the Gemu Goddess meet here. In clear, moonlit nights, one can hear them whispering and sharing their hearts. This is also the main venue for the annual circumambulation of the mountain and the sea (Valentine's Day). It's also a crucial place for young men and women to discuss romance. The ten-mile sandy shore of Wakua Bay, swaying with willows, creates a beautiful setting. At dusk, couples stroll hand in hand, their wordsless and tenderness overflowing.
