Mujiazhai Horse Farm is a traditional horse farm in Lijiang, known for its historical significance in the region’s pastoral life. It has been an important part of the local Naxi culture, where horses play a significant role in transportation and farming. The farm offers visitors a glimpse into the daily life of herders and traditional practices.
The farm is located in the outskirts of Lijiang, in Yunnan Province. The easiest way to reach the farm is by taxi or private car. Public transportation options may be limited, so it’s recommended to arrange a ride from Lijiang Old Town, which is about a 30-40 minute drive away.
The farm is open year-round, with the best time to visit being in the spring or autumn, when the weather is mild. It is open from 9 AM to 6 PM daily, but it’s advisable to visit in the morning for a more peaceful experience.
The entrance fee varies depending on the activities you choose (horseback riding, guided tours, etc.). Generally, it ranges from ¥50 to ¥200. Tickets can be purchased on-site, though some packages may be available for pre-booking online.
For basic entry, no advance booking is necessary. However, for horseback riding or guided tours, it’s recommended to book in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons (spring and autumn). Booking at least a day ahead is ideal.
Plan for about 2-3 hours to fully explore the farm, including taking a ride, walking around the property, and engaging in cultural activities. If you plan to participate in longer horse rides or guided tours, you may need more time.
Guided tours are available and can be conducted in Mandarin or English, depending on availability. Audio guides may also be provided for self-guided exploration, but it’s best to check with the farm before your visit.
A recommended itinerary includes starting with a horse ride to explore the farm and surrounding areas. Afterward, visit the stables, and if time permits, enjoy a cultural performance or a traditional meal at the farm.
Night visits and light shows are not typically available at the farm, as it is primarily a daytime attraction focused on outdoor activities and cultural experiences.
The farm can get busy during weekends and peak tourist seasons, especially in spring and autumn. For a quieter experience, visit on weekdays or early in the morning during off-peak months.
The farm is generally accessible to visitors of all ages, though elderly visitors or those with mobility challenges may find the walking trails a bit difficult due to uneven terrain. Horseback riding may also not be suitable for some visitors.
Cash is accepted, but mobile payments like WeChat Pay and Alipay are also widely used on-site. It’s advisable to carry some cash in case of technical issues with mobile payment systems.
Vegetarian options are available, including stir-fried vegetables and rice dishes. Vegan and halal options are more limited but may be found in Lijiang Old Town or upon special request.
Yes, the farm has souvenir shops selling local handicrafts, including Naxi textiles, handmade jewelry, and horse-related products like saddles and riding accessories.
