The Shigu Stele is a bluestone stele located on the riverside of Shigu Town. Its drum-like shape gives the town its name. It was erected in 1561 by Mu Gao, the hereditary governor of Lijiang at the time. The stele records his two battles against Tibetan forces.

Shigu is a relatively prosperous area in the Jinsha River valley. "Thousands of mountains and ridges cascade in the clouds, and my home is in the First Bend of the Yangtze River," a couplet written by Mr. Fan Yitian, who lived in Shigu, aptly summarizes the scenery and topography of the First Bend of the Yangtze River, making its reputation widely known.
