Baishui No. 1 Glacier, located on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow Mountain's main peak at a lower latitude, is a monsoon-oceanic glacier. Formed over 40,000 years ago, Baishui No. 1 Glacier stretches 2.7 kilometers long and is known as the "Green Snow Wonder Peak." From the foot of the mountain, it resembles a waterfall suspended from the sky. The seracs on the glacier tongue resemble giant pieces of jade embedded among the jagged rocks. The glaciers within the glacier can also be viewed up close, creating a breathtaking
spectacle. Although small, the glacier's surface is rugged and crevasses are well-developed. The terrain is particularly steep in the lower part, resulting in frequent ice and rock avalanches. Avalanches are common in the upper part of the glacier, making monitoring difficult. After extensive preparation, staff from the Chinese Academy of Sciences completed the installation of 20 mass balance poles in 2008, set up three automatic weather stations, and drilled 10-meter temperature boreholes at three elevations. The first observation data has been collected since September.
