Located in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, the Baoshan Museum broke ground on February 1, 1999, and was completed and opened at the end of September 1999, just before the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The museum's building, modeled after ancient southern Chinese bronze drums, is adorned with four large reliefs reflecting Baoshan's history and culture: "Legend of the Nine Dragons," "Double Rainbows on the Silk Road," "Elephant Ploughing in Yongchang," and "Forcing the Crossing of the Nu River." The building stands 19.6 meters tall, with a maximum diameter of 56.6 meters, and a total floor area of 3,224 square meters. The total investment in infrastructure was 5.7 million yuan.
The tropical monsoon climate combines the advantages of continental and maritime climates. Winter and spring are sunny and warm, while summer and autumn have a mix of sunny and rainy weather and are cool and pleasant. All four seasons are suitable for travel.
The museum features seven exhibition halls and a total exhibition area of over 400 meters. The exhibits are divided into eight major themes: "Prehistoric Culture," "Ailao Culture," "Yongchang Culture," "War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Western Yunnan," "Cultural Figures," "National Culture," "Achievements in Fifty Years of Construction," and "Natural Resources."
The entire exhibition uses a total of 663 pieces (sets) of various cultural relics and natural specimens, 762 data pictures, and 58 painting icons. In the form of a combination of pictures and cultural relics, it comprehensively and systematically displays the social development and evolution history of Baoshan since the late Paleolithic Age and its rich natural and cultural resources over tens of thousands of years.
