Xingguo Temple, also known as Xingguo Zen Temple, is located on Thousand Buddha Mountain in the urban area of Jinan. Thousand Buddha Mountain is located in Lixia District, Jinan City, Shandong Province. Xingguo Temple is located halfway up the Yinshan Mountain, leaning against a cliff to the south and facing the Spring City to the north. It is the main building of Thousand Buddha Mountain. Founded during the Kaihuang period of the Sui Dynasty, it was called "Thousand Buddha Temple". During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, it was expanded and renamed "Xingguo Zen Temple".
Built into the mountainside, Xingguo Temple boasts seven halls divided into four courtyards. The temple boasts a profound and tranquil Zen temple, majestic halls, and a well-proportioned layout. The entire temple, winding its way up the mountainside, exudes a sense of ancient simplicity and solemnity.
The four Zen temples of Xingguo Temple on Qianfo Mountain are commonly referred to as the "East Temple" and "West Temple." The East Temple, originally a mixed courtyard of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, now serves as the Zen monastery of Xingguo Temple. Within the compound are the Dashun Temple, Wenchang Pavilion, Lu Ban's poems, and a stele gallery, reflecting the unique blend of ancient Chinese traditional culture and Buddhist traditions. The West Temple is the main component of Xingguo Temple.
