Introducing Wangu Tower

Wangu Tower is a landmark building in Lijiang. It means "Thousand-Year Tower" in Dongba script and "Wengulun" in Naxi, meaning "to enjoy the view from a commanding height." The "Wan" in the character "Wan" symbolizes the panoramic view overlooking Lijiang Old Town and its rural scenery, and the distant view of the ancient glaciers of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It also symbolizes the restoration and reconstruction of Lijiang, which will be passed down through the ages and remain immortal.

Wangu Tower, a 33-meter-tall, five-tiered, all-wooden tower, symbolizes the 330,000 people of various ethnic groups in the former Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County. The tower is square, 18 meters wide and deep. Four pairs of stone lions, each depicting a different posture, are placed at each entrance. Inside, 2,300 auspicious designs are painted, representing Lijiang's 23 stone carvings, symbolizing favorable weather and abundant harvests throughout the agricultural seasons. There are 9,999 carved and painted dragons throughout the tower, and together with the coiled dragons in the rooftop caisson, there are a total of 10,000, representing the eternal prosperity of ten thousand dragons, symbolizing Lijiang as the beautiful home of the descendants of the dragon.

Climbing up the Wangu Tower, you can have a panoramic view of the entire Lijiang Dam, with your feet on the endless forest of Lion Mountain, looking north to the Thirteen Peaks of Jade Dragon, and east to the Lijiang Ancient Town and the magnificent imitation Forbidden City building complex.
