Introducing Yuhe Hall

Inside the Nanfeng Ancestral Hall, on the northeastern shore of Daming Lake Scenic Area, stands a hall called the "Yuhe Hall," facing the lakeshore to the south. It boasts red pillars and carved windows, green tiles and flying eaves, and is surrounded by corridors. Water surrounds the hall on the east, west, and north sides, and lotus flowers grow within. In front of the hall stands a painted boat, nicknamed "Heaven's Resting Boat." A couplet hangs above: "A noble man loves the tung tree; a gentleman loves the lotus." A horizontal scroll reads: "The melody of the zither and the fragrance of the lotus."

Staying by the lake, they recited poems, painted, played the zither and chess, rowed boats, and admired the lotuses and rain. Their joy was so intense that they fell in love. One day, a sudden storm arrived. In the Yuhe Hall, they listened to the raindrops hitting the lotus leaves like pearls falling on a jade plate, while the lake was shrouded in mist and rain. It was a poetic and picturesque scene. Xia Yuhe personally brewed lotus tea for Qianlong. This lotus tea, made with fresh lotus petals and leaves, lotus seeds, and rock sugar, was truly exceptional. Qianlong took a sip, his mouth filled with fragrance and he exclaimed in admiration: it was the best tea he had ever tasted.
