Heilongyu, a small mountain village located southeast of Jinan, is just over 7 kilometers from the Jinan Olympic Sports Center. Built within the valley, the village derives its name from the valley itself, hence the name Heilongyu. With a population of over 700 households and over 200 households, the village has a Heilongyu Villagers' Committee, which is affiliated with the Ganggou Sub-district Office in Licheng District. Archival records indicate that Heilongyu should have been part of the Jinan metropolitan area, developing alongside the city. However, due to historical reasons, the village remains dormant in the valley, awaiting opportunities for development.
Not far north of Gezi Gate stands a small courtyard with a separate entrance. This was the Guanyin Hall of Heilongyu, now renovated into a Guanyin Temple. The temple's Guanyin Hall is uniquely designed. While most Guanyin temples face south, this one, on the other hand, sits south and faces north, a typical "inverted Guanyin temple." Villagers say this allows Guanyin to gaze outward from the village, guarding the north gate and protecting the people. In the courtyard stands a towering ginkgo tree, approximately 60 centimeters in diameter and over 10 meters tall. It's estimated to be over 400 to 500 years old.
Jinan has a temperate monsoon climate with obvious monsoons and distinct four seasons: dry and rainy spring, warm and rainy summer, cool and dry autumn, and cold and snowy winter.
