Introducing Zhiyun Temple

Zhiyun Temple is located at the western foothills of Lashiba, 18 kilometers west of Lijiang Old Town. Built in 1727, the fifth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty, it is one of the five major temples in Lijiang. Originally comprising 13 courtyards, one large courtyard and five smaller ones remain. The large courtyard, a double-entry structure, houses the mountain gate, the Buddha Hall, auxiliary halls, a monks' hall, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a western quiet area. The Buddha Hall is rectangular, five bays wide, and features three-tiered eaves, with a central, square pavilion with a pointed roof. The ground floor houses the Dharma Hall, while the upper two floors were once the Sutra Library.

The vast main hall, capable of accommodating over a hundred lamas for rituals and hundreds of lamas for chanting, boasts a unique architecture, boasting the most pillars and the largest area among the Thirteen Great Temples of Liwei. The hall stands over 13 meters tall, with a seven-bay entrance and a length of 12.85 meters. The doors and windows are exquisitely carved with skillful craftsmanship, featuring three layers of window openings, making it a unique feature among Lijiang's ancient architecture.

A statue of Sakyamuni Buddha stands in the center of the hall, flanked by several other Buddha statues. To the left stands the stupa of the 15th Dongbao Living Buddha. The three-story hall's gilded ceiling gleams with golden light. The top floor boasts a four-ridged peak, while the first and second floors feature double-eaved hip roofs. The three floors have twelve eaves, each hung with a wind chime that rings with a melodious sound. The front eaves' ceiling is adorned with a curved, curved roof, adding to the richness of the space.
