Introducing Shangguan Flower Park

Shangguan Flower Park is located south of the ancient Nanzhao Pass, Longshou Pass (present-day Shangguan), bordering Erhai Lake to the east, Yunnong Peak of Cangshan Mountain to the west, and one kilometer south of Butterfly Spring. Construction began in December 1992 and was completed in September 1993. The scenic area comprises the mountain gate, twin cypress trees, a flower garden, a singing and dancing park, and Tianlong Cave.

The park is named after the renowned Shangguan Flower, which grows in Guanwai Huashu Village, north of Longshou Pass. It's called "Shilixiang," or Magnolia. It blooms 12 petals in a normal year and 13 in a leap year. Its yellow-white petals resemble magnolias, and its fragrance is exuding. Records of the flower were found in Ming Dynasty records, but it was destroyed during the Qing Dynasty. Xu Xiake, in his Diary of a Trip to Yunnan, wrote in Part Eight: "Shilixiang's flowers are yellow-white, as large as lotus flowers, and also have 12 petals. An extra petal is added each month during the leap year, similar to the one in the provincial capital. However, when in bloom, the fragrance is far more intense, leading the locals to call it 'Shilixiang,' a flower unheard of in the province." He also wrote, "Yucheng boasts four major scenic features: wind, flowers, snow, and moon. Shangguan is famous for this flower." This flower is now cultivated in the Shangguan Flower Park, and in three to five years, the Shangguan flower will reappear, a truly delightful sight.
