The Iron Pier is located on Liugong Island in Weihai. It was the berth of Beiyang Navy ships. It was designed and built under the supervision of the provincial governor Gong Zhaoyu and completed in 1891.
The iron pier is about several hundred meters long. The pier piles are all nailed into square pillars with thick iron plates, with a diameter of four or five feet and a length of five or six feet. Cement is poured in the middle, solidified like stone, and extends straight into the seabed.
The island is connected to a seamless submarine water supply pipeline, and the tap water supply is just like in the urban area, greatly improving the support capacity of the military port.
It has a temperate continental semi-humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons, moderate cold and hot seasons, synchronized light and temperature, and simultaneous rain and heat. Spring is dry and windy, summer is hot and rainy, autumn is sunny and refreshing, and winter is cold and snowy.
