Introducing Yunnan Railway Museum

Located at 913 Beijing Road, Kunming, the Yunnan Railway Museum, housed in the former waiting room of Kunming North Railway Station, is dedicated to the history of Yunnan's railways. The museum houses nearly 10,000 precious artifacts, historical photos, and documents, along with a wealth of vintage trains, locomotives, and railroad tracks. It's an ideal place to learn about Yunnan's railway history.

The museum consists of two parts, the South Hall and the North Hall. The South Hall is based on the century-old ancient building of "Yunnanfu Station" of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. The North Hall is a modern building with high-speed rail elements. The two halls are connected by a covered bridge that crosses the Kunming North Railway Station. This is also the only museum in my country currently opened on an operating station.

The Locomotive Hall, also known as the South Hall, displays vintage tracks and trains, including inch-gauge and meter-gauge models, as well as modern standard-gauge and EMU trains. Among the exhibits are the meter-gauge steam locomotive, the No. 29 steam locomotive with a track gauge of only 60 centimeters, and the Michelin diesel-electric multiple unit (EMU), representing the evolution of railway culture through the generations. The North Hall (General Hall) showcases a wealth of historical photographs of trains and tracks, a blueprint of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway's longitudinal section, and other historical documents, providing a systematic understanding of the history of Yunnan's railway development.
