Kunming's Changhu Lake is located 18 kilometers southeast of Shilin County and approximately 120 kilometers from downtown Kunming. Formed by geological faults, Changhu Lake is approximately 3 kilometers long and only 300 meters wide. Its surface resembles a crescent moon, hence the name Changhu. Hidden deep within dense forests and mountains, it is also known as the "Hidden Lake." The scenery of Changhu Lake is ever-changing. During the day, the sun pours down, casting a gentle haze across the landscape. At night, in the quiet jungle, pairs of young Sani men and women play the zither and sing.

At Changhu Lake, visitors can enjoy bamboo rafting, fishing, or mountain hiking. In the evening, they can rent a tent, watch Yi people's singing and dancing performances, and participate in the local torch party.

Legend has it that long ago, in a place called Azhuodi, the Yi people lived a beautiful, hardworking Sani girl named Ashima. She fell in love with Ahei, an honest and brave Yi youth. However, Ahzhi, the tyrannical son of a landlord, took his fancy to Ashima and forcibly took her away. Ahei went through many hardships to rescue Ashima. However, on their way home, a flash flood swept away Ashima. Ashima then transformed into a mountain peak, standing there, gazing into the distance, as if longing for her brother Ahei.

On June 24th, Yi people gather by the lake, playing zither and flutes, singing and dancing, with bonfires reflecting off the lake and the sound of music resonating throughout. Changhu Lake is also stunning at sunset, its surface shimmering in the afterglow, dotted with golden sparkles and silvery blooms.
