The Yanquan Scenic Area, covering 12 square kilometers, lies at the foot of Fushi Mountain west of Yiling County. Named after the spring gushing from the rocks, legend has it that monks built huts near the spring as early as the Song Dynasty. During the Yuan Dynasty, the renowned Yunnan monk Panlong Zushi (Palm Dragon Patriarch) illuminated the Yanquan Spring, bringing it widespread fame.
