The site where Mr. Li Gongpu was martyred is located on the east bank of Cuihu Park in Kunming, near No. 1 Yuantong Street. A monument dedicated to Mr. Li Gongpu's martyrdom is now erected. Li Gongpu (1900-1946), a native of Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, was an executive member of the Central Committee and Yunnan Provincial Branch of the China Democratic League. He was a renowned scholar, social activist, and patriotic democratic fighter. After the September 18th Incident, he joined the All-China Federation of National Salvation to advocate for resistance against Japanese aggression. He was arrested and imprisoned along with Shen Junru, Zou Taofen, and others, and is considered one of the famous "Seven Gentlemen of the War of Resistance."
In 1940, he moved to Kunming and engaged in progressive cultural activities. He opened the "Beimen Bookstore," which published and sold progressive literary and artistic books and periodicals, promoting anti-Japanese and national salvation movements and democratic and progressive thought. On the night of July 11, 1946, he was assassinated by Kuomintang agents with a silent pistol. This was the Li Wen Massacre, which shocked China and the world.
