The Fragrant Concubine's Tomb, also known as the Tomb of Apak Khoja, is located in Kokand Village, 5 kilometers east of Kashgar City. It is the burial site of Apak Khoja, leader of the White Mountain sect of Islam, and his family. The name later became popular due to the legend that Emperor Qianlong's concubine, the Fragrant Concubine, was buried there, replacing the original name. In reality, the Tomb of the Fragrant Concubine is just one of a complex of 72 tombs spanning five generations of a large family. Spanning 30 mu (approximately 1,000 acres), the Tomb was built around 1640 AD and is a typical Islamic mausoleum.
The Xiangfei Tomb resembles a magnificent palace, its architecture imbued with grandeur and beauty, and imbued with a strong Islamic influence. The green tiles and arched doors and windows are truly unique and well worth a visit. The main tomb chamber is the most significant structure within the area, boasting the largest dome in Xinjiang. Adjacent to the dome is the beautiful Bunker Building, a truly remarkable sight.
