Kanas Scenic Area is located in the central Altai Mountains of Xinjiang, nestled in the golden zone bordering China, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia. Kanas means "beautiful, rich, and mysterious" in Mongolian, making it a fitting name for this area. Renowned for its breathtaking scenery encompassing Kanas Lake and the surrounding snow-capped mountains, grasslands, and birch forests, it's known as the "Switzerland of the East" and a photographer's paradise.
Kanas is a comprehensive scenic area that combines glaciers, lakes, forests, grasslands, pastures, rivers, ethnic customs, and rare flora and fauna. Here, magnificent glaciers contrast with tranquil lakes, vast grasslands embrace deep primeval forests. The mysterious lake monster, the quaint Tuwa people, the ever-changing lake waters, and the breathtaking scenery will captivate you.
Best in June and September
Kanas's signature attractions are its sea of flowers in June and its golden autumn in September. In June, Kanas is filled with spring, its boundless greenery making it hard to leave. After a brief summer, Kanas welcomes its golden September, a vibrant display of vibrant colors. Kanas's winter, with its frozen lake, is equally captivating.
Kanas has launched a winter tourism project (October 10th - May 10th of the following year), which not only waives some tickets but also allows visitors to experience a "horse-drawn sleigh". There is also a winter photography tourism festival every winter.
