The former Soviet site is located on Zhongshan East Road in Yelin Town, Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province, covering an area of 1,127 square meters. Formerly the Qiongshan Guild Hall, the Lingshui Soviet Site was built in the 10th year of the Republic of China. In 1927, shortly after the failure of the Great Revolution, the Lingshui County Soviet Government, the first revolutionary regime in Qiongya, was established here, reigniting the flame of revolutionary struggle across the island.
This exquisite building blends Central and European styles, appearing overall as a multi-entry courtyard reminiscent of an ancestral hall. The gilded paintings on the wooden screen, the intricate carvings on the door and window lattices, and the relief floral decorations on the whitewashed walls all reflect traditional Chinese architectural features. Furthermore, European Baroque influences are prominently incorporated, including European-style porches, a curved roof, ridge ornamentation with curling grass, and a long, arched colonnade on the facade. The densely-columned, ornamental balustrades along the corridors are particularly prominent. The entire building exudes the luxurious atmosphere of the Qiongshan merchants of the past, and has become a symbol of Lingshui today.
