The Osaka Museum of History, located west of Osaka Castle, is a 10- story building that stands in stark contrast to the traditional low-rise, expansive architecture. Because the museum is located on the site of the 1,300 -year-old Namba Cultural Heritage, prior to construction, detailed surveys and excavations were conducted, uncovering numerous valuable artifacts and the remains of ancient building foundations. To preserve this cultural heritage, the high-rise design was chosen.

The museum uses a variety of means such as cultural relics display, physical models and multimedia to reproduce the appearance of the past as much as possible to visitors, and introduces Osaka's journey from ancient times to the present to tourists.
