The Grassland Sky Road is located at the junction of Zhangbei County and Chongli District of Zhangjiakou City. It starts from Daqing Mountain (National Forest Park) on the south side of Shangyi County in the west and ends at Huapilingling in Chongli County in the east. It is an important channel connecting Chongli Ski Area, Chicheng Hot Spring Area, Zhangbei Grassland Scenic Area, Bailong Cave Scenic Area, and Daqing Mountain Scenic Area. It is also one of the ten most beautiful roads in mainland China.
Around the Grassland Sky Road, there are also tourist attractions such as Huapilingling, Yehulingling, the Ancient Great Wall, and the Glass Suspension Bridge (the top of the Sky Road). [1] The Grassland Sky Road is over 300 kilometers long (132.7 kilometers have been developed so far. At the end of 2011, Zhangbei County of Zhangjiakou City invested 320 million yuan and it was completed and opened to traffic at the end of September 2012. The western extension line - Shangyi section is currently under development and is expected to be opened to traffic at the end of 2018). The road is winding, with rivers and mountains, deep gullies, meadows with cattle and sheep, and magnificent scenery, presenting a picture scroll of Bailibatou scenery. It is dotted with many cultural, ecological and geological tourism resources such as the ruins of the Ancient Great Wall, Huapilingling, Yehulingling, and Zhangbei Grassland.
The Zhangbei County Government Information Disclosure Platform released an approval regarding the price of entrance fees for the "Grassland Sky Road". Starting from April 30, 2016, the 132-kilometer completed section of the "Grassland Sky Road" entered the toll era.
In response to public concerns and to facilitate tourists to visit the "Grassland Sky Road" scenic area, the Zhangbei County Government decided to cancel the admission fee to the "Grassland Sky Road" scenic area from May 23, 2016.
