Introducing Gedeng Monument

The Gedeng Stele is located on Gedeng Mountain, over 60 kilometers west of Zhaosu County, with the China-Kazakhstan border at its foot. The full name of the stele is "Gedeng Stele: Inscription on the Pacification of the Dzungars." The inscription, written personally by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, dates back to 1760. It is a massive granite stele erected on Gedeng Mountain.

The inscription is a relief pattern of the sunrise over the East China Sea, which mainly records the process and achievements of the Qing army in suppressing the rebellion of Dawachi, the leader of the Dzungar tribe. For more than 200 years, Gedeng Mountain has been famous because of this stone tablet.
