Located in Hongshilin Town, Guzhang County, Zuolong Gorge Scenic Area is separated from Wangcun, also known as Furong Town, by a river. Formed over three million years of wind and water erosion, the karst landscape is dotted with waterfalls and deep pools. The fresh air and cool, damp summers have earned it the reputation of Xiangxi's "natural air conditioning." Hidden within the vast Xiangxi mountains, the area has long been a treasure trove of scenic beauty.
The scenic area is approximately 3,500 meters long, with a maximum drop of over 300 meters. It's less than ten feet wide at its widest point, and barely wide enough for one person to pass through at its narrowest. The valley is filled with cascading cliffs, cascading streams and waterfalls, swaying trees, and exotic grasses covering the slopes. However, its most striking feature is the breathtaking plank paths nestled between the cliffs—both the narrow wooden paths and the steps along the cliff sides are suspended in mid-air, so tourists with a fear of heights should avoid them. The ancient villages near Zuolong Gorge, nestled in the hillside, preserve the pristine Tujia culture and are highly recommended for a visit.
