Luya Mountain is located in Dongzhai Town, Ningwu County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, over 100 kilometers southwest of Ningwu Pass, in the middle of Guancen Mountain. Its main peak, Luya Peak, reaches an elevation of 2,736 meters. Luya Mountain "borders Kelan to the west, Ningwu to the east, Jingle to the south, and dominates Wuzhai."
Luya Mountain, named for its resemblance to a reed bud, resembles a giant holding a sword and piercing the sky. Over 200 peaks, large and small, are clustered here, crisscrossed by ravines, cascading cliffs, gurgling streams, and over 30 waterfalls . The peaks are precipitous, with jagged rocks and dense forests. Whenever clouds and mist linger, the majestic peaks stand out, like verdant reed buds bursting forth from the earth, vibrant and juicy, captivating the view. At sunrise after rain, the dark green of Luya Mountain transforms into a fiery red, and occasionally, one can encounter the colorful "Luya Buddha Light," shaped like a Dharma wheel.
At the summit of Luya Mountain, you'll find scenic spots like the Golden Dragon Pond, Five Dragon Cave, Xiuyun Peak, Purple Peak Cliff, Phoenix Ridge, the East and West Fire Sites, the Big and Small Heavenly Streams, Shushen Gorge, Sheshen Cliff, the Nine-Stairs Ladder, Huayan Temple, the Dharma Platform, Vajra Hall, Dragon King Hall, and the Prince's Hall. East of the Prince's Hall are Xiaoluya Mountain, Yunji Temple, and Ehu Ridge. Behind Xiaoluya Mountain are natural attractions like the Bodhidharma Temple, the Stone Plank Bridge, and the banks of the Grand River.
The scenery of Luya Mountain is different in each season. In spring, there are ten miles of apricot blossoms, in midsummer, there are clouds flowing over the mountains, in mid-autumn, there are layers of colorful forests, and in mid-winter, there are mountains and rivers covered with white snow. It is a rare tourist attraction and a leisure and summer resort.

Booking in advance is recommended during weekends, holidays, or peak seasons, ideally 1–3 days ahead.
A full day is sufficient for major trails and highlights. Two days allow a more relaxed visit including all viewpoints and cultural sites.
Guided tours are available in Chinese; limited English guides may be arranged in advance. Audio guides are not widely available.
Start at the main entrance → take the cable car to the top → hike scenic trails → visit temples and pavilions → return via different trail for varied scenery → stop at rest areas for views and photography.
Night visits are limited. Occasionally, special events or festivals may include guided night tours or lighting displays.
Weekdays are less crowded than weekends or holidays. Early morning visits provide quieter conditions and better lighting for photography.
