According to historical records, Chaozhou, Fujian, boasted 91 memorial archways, 39 of which were located on Taiping Road, 44 on other streets and alleys, and the remainder at Jinshan, Hanshan, and Xiangziqiao. An additional 57 archways were scattered throughout the townships, leading to the nickname "Memorial Archway City." The archways concentrated along Taiping Road (main street) are mostly large, with four pillars and three gates spanning the road. These large archways, lined up in rows, are unique in style and imposing, earning them the nickname "Memorial Archway Street."
The archways along Archway Street tell of the achievements of countless Chaozhou heroes, each with a story behind it. Most of these archways were erected for Jinshi (Jinshi), Zhuangyuan (Shangshu), and Shangshu (Shangshu), among others. The oldest archway on the street is the Zhushi Archway, dating back to 1517. Numerous arcade buildings remain along the street. Besides exploring the historical sites, the food is even more enticing, with Chaozhou-style handmade beef balls, taro cakes, and duck eye twists all offering unique flavors.
