Chiang Kai-shek's former residence is located in Xikou, Fenghua District, Ningbo City. Chiang Kai-shek, Soong Mei-ling and Chiang Ching-kuo once lived, worked and entertained here. Chiang Kai-shek still missed this place in his later years.
The Jiang Family Former Residence is a complex of buildings, encompassing the Fenghao House, a small Western-style house, and the Yutai Salt Shop. The layout follows a traditional front hall and back hall pattern, with two wings and four halls. The buildings connect to each other, with winding corridors and verandas, and the splendid atmosphere of black columns and ochre walls. The front hall and its left and right sides also contain three gardens. The halls and corridors are richly decorated with carvings and paintings.
The Baoben Hall features couplets personally written by Chiang Kai-shek, "Repaying one's parents and honoring one's parents is the essence of morality," and "Glorifying the past and benefiting the future is what we hope for: filial sons and obedient grandchildren." The plaque also reads, "Rational and Handsome." It was erected as a private tribute to his son, Chiang Ching-kuo, on his 40th birthday. The State Council has designated it as an important historical site and representative building of modern times.
