Introducing Lingshan Island
Lingshan Island is located in the Yellow Sea southeast of Huangdao District (formerly Jiaonan City). It is 5.3 nautical miles from the nearest landmass, Dazhushan, 9 nautical miles from Jimiya, and 22 nautical miles from Qingdao. With a total land area of 7.66 square kilometers and a peak elevation of 513.6 meters, it is the highest island in northern China. Lingshan Island has a permanent population of over 3,000 and 12 natural villages. Fishing and aquaculture are the main livelihoods of the islanders. There is only one primary and middle school on the island, and electricity is supplied by submarine cables laid from Dazhushan. Drinking water comes from wells, ensuring sufficient water for daily use, but irrigation is not possible, and even bathing requires water conservation. Lingshan Island is also known as Shuilingshan Island. In August 2012, Lingshan Island sea cucumbers received Geographical Indication Product certification from the Ministry of Agriculture.
