Minghe Ancient Town, located in the south of Guanhaiwei Town, Cixi, Zhejiang Province, is a thousand-year-old town. With its abundant natural resources and outstanding people, it is currently the only provincial-level historical and cultural town in Cixi City.
Built along the shores of Baiyang Lake, the town's streets follow the mountain and its streets are formed by the river. It's adjacent to the Wulei Mountain Scenic Area. With a temple on the edge of town and fishermen and farmers living by the river, it's a classic Jiangnan ancient town. Most of the historic buildings within the town are mansions, built by the Minghe Ye family after they made their fortune in traditional Chinese medicine.
Traditional Chinese medicine has been a pillar of Minghe's history. Minghe Town was built on salt and flourished on medicine. Pharmacies like Hangzhou's Ye Zhongdetang, Wenzhou's Ye Tongrentang, and Shaoxing's Zhenyuantang all originated in Minghe. "Chinese traditional medicine originates in Zhejiang, Zhejiang is in Cixi, and Cixi's premier destination is Minghe."
