Zhuhai is a city of hundreds of islands, 106 of which are located in Wanshan District. The Wanshan Islands include the well-known Guishan Island, Dong'ao Island, Da Wanshan Island, Xiao Wanshan Island, Baili Island, Huangmao Island, Wailingding Island, and Dangan Island.
The Wanshan Islands are like camps standing on the frontier of Humen, and like huge ships anchored at the mouth of the Pearl River, forming a natural barrier for South China and an important gateway for Guangzhou.
The Wanshan Islands boast not only beautiful natural scenery and abundant fishery resources, but also a rich history and culture. Human activity has been documented as early as the Neolithic Age. It was in the waters of Wanshan District that Wen Tianxiang composes his timeless masterpiece, "Since ancient times, all men are mortal, but I will leave behind my loyal heart to shine through history."
