Introducing Tianluokeng Tulou

The Tianluokeng Tulou complex is located in Tianluokeng Village, Shangban Village, Shuyang County, western Nanjing County, Fujian Province. It is the home of the Huang clan. Nestled on the slopes of Huqiu Mountain at an altitude of 787.8 meters, 60 kilometers from Nanjing County, the complex comprises the square Buyun Tower, the circular Zhenchang Tower, Ruiyun Tower, Hechang Tower, and the oval Wenchang Tower, all of which are well-preserved.

Tianluokeng is surrounded by mountains on the east, west and north, and a large area of terraced fields on the south. The five earth buildings are built according to the construction method of the five-room Mingtang in "Kaogong Ji". Its orientation is "East Jia and Yi wood, West Gengshen metal, South Bing and Ding fire, North Ren and Gui water", that is, "metal, wood, water, fire and earth". A square earth building of earth is in the middle, and four circular buildings surround it above, below, left and right, which are jokingly called "four dishes and one soup".

The Tianluokeng Tulou cluster is the most distinctive example of Nanjing's Tulou. UNESCO consultant Stevens Andrews called it "a unique, mythical mountain architectural model in the world." Professor Lu Bingjie of Shanghai Tongji University, after completing the "Atlas of Field Surveys of Yuanzhai, Nanjing, Fujian," remarked, "If you haven't seen the Tianluokeng Tulou cluster, you haven't truly seen Tulou." Tulou are like an endlessly readable book, not only a unique gem in Chinese architectural history but also a reflection of the traditional culture of the Hakka people, who have lived together in clans for generations.

Four round buildings surround a square one, resembling a plum blossom in full bloom, a breathtaking spectacle of beauty and brilliance, or a majestic quintet symphony, resonating passionately amidst the verdant mountains and picturesque waters. From the road at the bottom of the slope, looking upward, the Tianluokeng Tulou complex appears like the Potala Palace, towering majestically, solemn and awe-inspiring, its splendor shimmering in the sunlight.
