Tianbaozhai, also known as Tianbao Cave, is located in the Shunan Bamboo Sea Scenic Area in Yibin City, Sichuan Province. It is situated on the cliffs to the east of Xianyu Cave on the southern edge of the Bamboo Sea and is an important attraction in the Shunan Bamboo Sea.
The ancient village is 1,500 meters long, 20 meters high, and approximately 10 meters wide. Its roof is entirely composed of rock, with most of the caves being half natural and others artificially carved. The cliffs above the caves soar, while the cliffs below are sheer and impassable. Thirteen ingeniously constructed, sturdy stone gates create a strategic location, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack. In the early years of the Republic of China, banditry was rampant, and local gentry moved here to protect themselves from the thieves.
Even more surprising is the carving of "The Essence of Ancient Military Strategy: Thirty-Six Stratagems" on the cliffs of Tianbao Village. Each cliff carving, based on the content of each strategy, selects familiar battle examples and carves them into giant images. Standing majestically atop the majestic and precipitous cliffs, it blends natural and cultural landscapes, creating a spectacular sight.
