Longchuan Gorge, located in Baihe Town, about 18 kilometers north of the county seat, boasts captivating natural scenery, including steep peaks, secluded valleys, bizarre rock formations, fantastical mists, numerous waterfalls, and clear springs. Xu Xiake entered the gorge from Taoyuan during his third visit to Tiantai Mountain in 1632 , and later went to Wannian Temple.
Upon entering the scenic area, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of Sima Waterfall , cascading down from a cliff over 80 meters high. To the left of Sima Waterfall, nestled in a secluded valley, lie five cascading springs: Liaoling Waterfall , Ziyang Waterfall , Lingbao Waterfall , Baihe Waterfall , and Xiaoxiang Waterfall. The five waterfalls cascade in a unique pattern. The Tongtian Plank Road winds along the cliffside beside the waterfall, ascending the steps to the scenic spot known as Youlongxi .
A mountaintop basin, thousands of square meters in size and shaded by lush greenery, lies a clear mountain stream in its center. Seven boulders shaped like fairies bathing in the water flow like a swimming dragon, gently caressing the seven fairies , creating a beautiful scene of " Dragon and Phoenix Playing. " Several newly built cabins, adorned with antique charm, emerge from the shaded greenery beside the stream, serving as teahouses for visitors to relax and unwind.
From here, traversing upstream, one quickly reaches the magical " Dragon Piercing Through the Wall . " A massive waterfall, five or six meters wide, cascades down a hundred-meter-high cliff, evoking the aura of a dragon soaring over a cliff , roaring in the wind and rain, its might swallowing up the Wu and Yue regions and overturning the Milky Way . The crisscrossing lines of the cliff face create a breathtaking spectacle of natural stone reliefs depicting the neatly arranged formations of the Terracotta Army.
