Hi, I'm planning to travel to Chicago with my husband in late September
and I'm trying to book a hotel or airbnb.
Then I came across Sonder, and found this great place!
The place I had my eye on was Sonder South Wabash.
It's on South Wabash Avenue.
I lived just outside of Chicago 10 years ago, so I'm not sure which place would be the best way to go if I want to stay downtown.
Thanks in advance!
The South Loop area is a great place to stay for tourists visiting Chicago! It’s conveniently located near many of the city's top attractions and offers a blend of urban charm, historical sites, and modern amenities.
The South Loop is part of downtown Chicago, so it gives you easy access to major tourist destinations like Grant Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and the Museum Campus (home to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium). You’ll also be within walking distance of the Chicago Riverwalk, which is perfect for leisurely strolls along the river, and the famous Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) is nearby as well.
In terms of accommodations, Sonder South Wabash could be a great option! Sonder is known for offering modern, well-designed short-term rentals, and the South Wabash location puts you right in the heart of the South Loop, which is a very walkable area. It’s close to dining, shopping, and transportation options, making it easy to explore other parts of the city. Since you mentioned that you’ve lived just outside of Chicago, you’ll likely appreciate the convenient location without being in the hustle and bustle of the more tourist-heavy areas like the Magnificent Mile.
However, there are a few things to consider. While South Loop is a great place for tourists who enjoy being close to cultural and historical sites, it may not have as many high-end shopping and entertainment options compared to areas like River North or the Magnificent Mile. But if you’re looking for a more relaxed, local vibe, the South Loop will definitely give you that. It’s a great balance between a central location and a less crowded experience compared to other parts of downtown.
If you’re open to other areas in downtown Chicago, here are some alternatives to consider:
In summary, if you want to stay in a central, convenient area with access to major attractions and a more local feel, the South Loop is an excellent choice. Sonder South Wabash offers modern accommodations and is a great option for a comfortable stay. If you prefer a more high-energy, shopping-focused area, you might consider River North or the Magnificent Mile. Enjoy your trip to Chicago!
