Hi there, we are staying at Royal Sonesta River North and planning to have dinner our first night at Lou Malnati's. There are two locations that are both very close to Royal Sonesta--North Michigan Ave and North Wells St.
Just checking to see if anyone has any reason (atmosphere, neighborhood, anything else?) why one Malnati's location would be better than the other for us to choose. We'll likely be walking from the Royal Sonesta on State Street. Thanks in advance!
Both Lou Malnati's locations on North Michigan Ave and North Wells Street are excellent choices, and both are quite close to your hotel, Royal Sonesta River North. However, each location has its own unique vibe and neighborhood, so it depends on what kind of experience you're looking for. Here's a breakdown of the two options:
1. Lou Malnati's on North Michigan Ave
This location is right in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, one of the city's most popular and bustling shopping and tourist districts. The atmosphere here is typically a bit more touristy due to the location, but it's still cozy and welcoming. The area around Michigan Avenue is lively, with lots of high-end shops, hotels, and major attractions like the John Hancock Center and Water Tower Place.
2. Lou Malnati's on North Wells Street
This location is situated in the River North neighborhood, a trendy area known for its galleries, bars, and more relaxed vibe. The neighborhood feels a bit more local and less touristy compared to Michigan Avenue. It's a short walk from the hotel, and you'll be passing through an area with lots of restaurants, bars, and smaller boutiques. This location tends to be a bit quieter and less crowded, making for a more relaxed dining experience.

Final Recommendation:
If you're after a more touristy experience with lots of nearby attractions, the Michigan Ave location might be a better choice. However, if you prefer a quieter, more local vibe with a less crowded setting, the Wells Street location would likely be more your speed. Either way, you’ll get great Lou Malnati’s deep-dish pizza!
