Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli, Ocean City, Closing.

This info was just released. Very sad to hear.

BREAKING: Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli is CLOSING in Ocean City! The last day is October 24th. From them: "Just to put any rumors to rest, please note that our business is healthy and fine. We are not closing the Ocean City location due to lack of business. The truth is, our lease is up (for the 4th time), and the landlord (a fantastic landlord) is willing to give us a 4th extension, but this time they can give us only an 11 month extension. Our building, equipment and HVAC all need a very substantial investment in order to last even for just another 11 months. This is on top of other substantial investments in the physical plant over the past 3 years. Economically, it just makes no sense to do so again. We won’t be able to recoup this next investment even should we stay open. (This is not a crowd-funding appeal.) So, the decision was made to instead close. " They are looking for a new place to move if they can find one with affordable rent. They are/were located at 63rd St. on Coastal Highway.

It is indeed sad news for Ocean City and fans of Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli. The Ocean City location, which has been a staple at 63rd Street on Coastal Highway, is closing on October 24th. According to the owners, the closure is not due to poor business performance — the deli remains healthy and well-frequented — but rather financial and logistical considerations related to the lease and property.

Reasons for Closure:

  • The lease for the Ocean City location has reached its end, and while the landlord offered an 11-month extension, it would not be economically viable for the owners.
  • The building, equipment, and HVAC system require substantial investment, which would not be recoverable in just 11 months.
  • Over the past three years, significant investments have already been made in maintaining and upgrading the physical plant, making further short-term investment impractical.

Future Plans:

  • The owners are actively looking for a new location with affordable rent in order to continue serving the community.
  • They emphasize that this is not a crowd-funding appeal but a necessary business decision.
  • There is hope among patrons that Rosenfeld's may reopen elsewhere in the area once a suitable location is found.

For now, customers wishing to visit the Ocean City location should plan to do so before the final day, October 24th, to enjoy their offerings one last time at this iconic location. Keep an eye on announcements from the owners regarding any new location and potential reopening.
