Advise on hotel for first timer

Hi all, am travelling to Vegas with family (2A + 2 teens) between 18-25 Dec (planning 4-5 days stay include a nite at Grand Canyon, though not sure if feasible for Dec weather else will just stay in LV).

Would like some advise on recommended hotel please. Budget per night for 4 pax around US$200+-, prefer no casino/ smoking hotel. Cleanliness & accessible to eateries, shops is preferred.

Free parking will be good otherwise paid safe parking is fine.

Thank you.

Visiting Las Vegas with family during December can be a fun experience, and choosing the right hotel is important to ensure a comfortable stay. Since your priorities include a non-smoking environment, limited or no casino exposure, cleanliness, accessibility to shops and eateries, and family-friendly accommodations, here are some tailored suggestions.

First, a few general notes:

  • Most of the major Strip hotels have casinos, but some offer non-smoking rooms and quieter floors that reduce exposure to the gaming areas.
  • Hotels slightly off the Strip or in nearby areas may offer more family-friendly, smoke-free environments, often with free or cheaper parking.
  • December weather at the Grand Canyon can be cold and snowy. Day trips are possible but require checking road conditions; staying overnight at the Canyon is feasible if prepared for winter driving and accommodation in Tusayan or nearby lodges.

Recommended hotels in Las Vegas for families under your criteria:

  • Four Queens Hotel & Casino – Downtown Las Vegas; offers non-smoking rooms and some family-friendly options, reasonably priced, near Fremont Street attractions, and with paid parking.
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Las Vegas Airport South – Non-smoking, family-friendly, free parking, and includes breakfast; off-Strip but convenient for both airport and Strip access via car.
  • SpringHill Suites by Marriott Las Vegas Convention Center – Clean, modern suites suitable for families, non-smoking rooms, free parking, and good access to eateries and shops; some driving needed for Strip attractions.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott Las Vegas South – All-suite hotel, non-smoking, free parking, kitchen facilities which are convenient for families, and close to dining and shopping.
  • Red Roof PLUS+ Las Vegas – Budget-friendly, non-smoking, free parking, near the Strip, basic but clean accommodations for short stays.

Tips for booking and staying:

  • Always confirm that the room is non-smoking when booking, as some hotels have both smoking and non-smoking rooms.
  • Check if the hotel charges a resort fee, as this can affect your budget; some off-Strip options have lower or no resort fees.
  • For a Grand Canyon visit, consider an overnight stay in Tusayan or a guided winter tour from Las Vegas to avoid driving in potentially snowy conditions.
  • Booking early is recommended since your stay overlaps with a busy holiday period (Dec 18–25), which can drive up rates.

Overall, selecting a family-friendly hotel slightly off the Strip or one that offers non-smoking floors with suites will provide comfort, safety, and accessibility to Las Vegas attractions while keeping within your budget.
