Hotel Indigo

We are coming in for 3 nights (Dec 7-10) to the Historic District. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Indigo recently? We booked our room online (with cancellation allowed 2 days before arrival for full refund) but then after I booked and paid it tells me they are charging a $25 resort fee/nt when we arrive, and we pay for that when we arrive. Is this a normal practice there, I thought it was pretty shady to not include it in the booking? We don't need anything fancy just with two beds as we plan to only be in the hotel to sleep. I keep reading hit or miss reviews, like good and then really gross.

Hotel Indigo in Savannah’s Historic District is a boutique property that gets mixed reviews, largely depending on room, housekeeping, and expectations. Many travelers book for the location rather than luxurious amenities, which makes sense if you’re mostly planning to sleep and spend your days exploring.

Regarding the $25 “resort fee” per night: this is fairly common in many U.S. cities, especially in boutique or downtown hotels. It is often charged separately from the base room rate and typically covers things like Wi-Fi, gym access, or other minor amenities. While it might feel misleading if not included in your initial online quote, it is not unusual. Many online booking platforms now show “resort fee” separately, and hotels often do this to keep advertised rates lower.

Based on recent reviews, here’s what you can expect:

  • Rooms are generally clean, but some travelers report occasional issues with dated furniture, cleanliness inconsistencies, or small maintenance problems. It’s hit or miss depending on the room and housekeeping team.
  • The location is excellent for walking to restaurants, squares, and River Street. You won’t need a car to enjoy the Historic District.
  • Staff is usually friendly, and check-in is straightforward, though some guests mention the resort fee only being mentioned at check-in, which can be surprising.

If your main needs are two beds, a clean room, and good location, Hotel Indigo will likely meet your requirements. If you are particularly sensitive to cleanliness or prefer everything included upfront, it might be worth considering alternative hotels that include all fees in the listed rate.

  • Alternative options nearby: Hyatt Regency Savannah, The Desoto Savannah, or Andaz Savannah—all within walking distance of the Historic District and typically include taxes and fees upfront.

Overall, Hotel Indigo is convenient and functional for a short stay in Savannah, but be prepared for minor surprises with fees and room quality. Booking with free cancellation two days prior is smart—it gives you flexibility if you reconsider or find a better option.
