Areas for AirB&B

Looking at spending a few days in Savannah. 3 women in 50's and 60's.

In looking at a map, we're looking in the rectangle that is between Forsyth Park and the River, and then between Barnard Street and East Broad Street. Is that area pretty safe overall? Should we also be looking at other areas. We'll be walking a lot. We won't be out after about 9:00 at night.

Thanks for your help!

Savannah is a beautiful and historic city, and the area you're considering for your Airbnb stay, between Forsyth Park and the River, and between Barnard Street and East Broad Street, is an excellent choice. It is one of the most popular and vibrant parts of the city, offering a perfect mix of charm, convenience, and easy access to Savannah's main attractions. Here's a detailed look at the safety and convenience of the area you're considering, along with some tips for your stay:

Safety of the Area:

The area between Forsyth Park and the River Street, particularly near Barnard Street and East Broad Street, is generally considered safe and walkable, especially during the day. It is in the heart of historic Savannah, which is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. The streets are well-lit, and you will find many restaurants, shops, and attractions nearby. However, like any urban area, it's always important to stay alert, particularly in less crowded spots or late at night.

Since you plan on returning to your accommodation by around 9:00 PM, it is worth noting that Savannah is generally quieter in the evenings, especially in residential areas. However, River Street and the historic district remain lively with people enjoying bars, shops, and evening activities. If you're staying close to the river, you'll be within walking distance to many popular spots, which is great for getting around without needing to drive or worry about parking.

Additional Areas to Consider:

  • The Historic District: If you're already considering an area near Forsyth Park, the nearby Historic District is another excellent option. This area is well-known for its tree-lined streets, charming squares, and proximity to many of Savannah's iconic landmarks. It's safe, walkable, and offers a mix of quiet residential streets and lively squares. It's a great option if you want to experience the full charm of Savannah.
  • City Market Area: City Market is another great area to consider. It's located just east of Barnard Street and is home to a vibrant arts scene, cafes, and shops. It's also very walkable and safe, and it will give you easy access to River Street, while still being a bit quieter in the evenings.
  • Starland District: If you're open to staying slightly further away from the main tourist areas, the Starland District offers a more hip, artsy vibe. It's a growing neighborhood with local galleries, boutique shops, and great food options. While it’s a bit more off the beaten path, it’s still relatively safe and offers a unique experience of Savannah beyond the historic district.

Safety Tips:

  • Stick to well-lit streets when walking at night, and avoid any areas that feel deserted or poorly lit.
  • If you're concerned about walking at night, you can always use rideshare services like Uber or Lyft for extra peace of mind.
  • As always, keep an eye on your belongings and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuables while walking around.

In summary, the area you're considering (between Forsyth Park and the River) is a great location for your stay in Savannah. It's safe and convenient, especially if you'll be walking a lot during the day. If you’d like to explore other neighborhoods for a different vibe, the Historic District, City Market, and Starland District are also excellent options. Enjoy your time in Savannah!
