Savannah Georgia need help with lodging choice🙏🙏🙏

Can anyone help me decide between Eliza Thompson house (quiet bed and breakfast) and Marshall House (hotel near the river) when my husband and I travel to Savannah Georgia?! 🙏We are really struggling to decide between the two!!! Both look nice but offer different vibes for sure and one is a lot more expensive but we are only there for the weekend for some badly needed respite!!! Thanks for any advice you have for us!!!!

It’s great that you’re planning a trip to Savannah! Both the Eliza Thompson House and The Marshall House are wonderful options, but they do offer different experiences. Let me help break down the key differences so you can make the best decision for your weekend getaway. Here are some factors to consider when choosing between these two charming properties:

  • Eliza Thompson House (Bed & Breakfast):
    • Vibe: Eliza Thompson House is a beautiful and quiet bed and breakfast, perfect for a more intimate, cozy, and relaxing experience. It’s located in a charming, historic home in the heart of Savannah's historic district. If you’re looking for peace, tranquility, and a more personal experience, this is a great choice.
    • Atmosphere: This place is known for its traditional Southern hospitality, with friendly staff offering personalized attention. The home has a more intimate feel, with less of the hustle and bustle that can come with larger hotels. You'll have a chance to enjoy a homemade breakfast in a quiet, historic setting. The inn also features a lovely courtyard for lounging.
    • Location: Located in a quiet residential area, it’s still close to many of Savannah’s major attractions, but it offers a peaceful respite from the city noise. It's a great place to unwind, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing and slow-paced weekend.
    • Cost: This will likely be the more affordable option compared to The Marshall House, which could be important for a weekend trip on a budget. You’ll still get a lot of charm, a great breakfast, and a relaxing atmosphere without the high-end price tag.
  • The Marshall House (Hotel near the River):
    • Vibe: The Marshall House is a historic hotel with more of a classic hotel feel. It offers a larger, more bustling environment, and you’ll be closer to the action, with easy access to Savannah’s River Street and all the shops, restaurants, and sights near the riverfront.
    • Atmosphere: While it’s not quite as intimate as a bed and breakfast, The Marshall House has its own charm with elegant rooms and a bit of history. The building dates back to the 1800s and was originally a hospital during the Civil War. The hotel has been beautifully restored and offers a stylish, comfortable place to stay.
    • Location: If you want to be right in the heart of the action, this is your best bet. You’ll be steps away from the historic district and near the River Street shops, restaurants, and attractions. The hotel’s location is perfect if you want to be close to the riverfront and experience Savannah’s lively atmosphere, especially for a weekend trip.
    • Cost: The Marshall House will be more expensive than Eliza Thompson House, particularly if you’re staying in one of the more luxurious rooms. However, if proximity to the riverfront and being near the action are important to you, the location may justify the extra cost.

Which is the better choice for you?

  • If you prefer a quieter, more intimate experience: The Eliza Thompson House would be perfect for you. It's a great place to unwind, relax, and enjoy the historic charm of Savannah without the distractions of a busy hotel atmosphere. The peaceful setting allows for more personal attention and a slower pace.
  • If you want to be close to the action and enjoy a more vibrant, hotel-like experience: The Marshall House is ideal if you're looking to stay in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and near the riverfront. It's an excellent option if you want to explore the sights, restaurants, and shops of the city with ease, and enjoy a lively hotel environment with modern amenities.

Conclusion: Both places offer great experiences, but it really depends on the kind of vibe you’re after for your weekend. If you’re seeking relaxation, quiet, and a personal touch, Eliza Thompson House is a wonderful choice. If you want to be close to the action, with easy access to Savannah’s historic sites and lively riverfront, The Marshall House will be the better option. Either way, you’re sure to enjoy Savannah's charm!
