The Marshall Residence is located at No. 5 Ninghai Road , Gulou District, Nanjing, in the Yihe Road Residence area. It was originally a villa built by the Jincheng Bank in 1935 and designed by Tong Jun. It was later purchased by Zhang Qun, who was then the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the National Government, as a residence, and was later donated to the German Embassy.
The building is a two-story brick-concrete structure with an antique-style hip roof paved with glazed tiles. A spacious courtyard lies to the south, where paths are paved with red, black, and white cobblestones in decorative patterns of eagles, lions, tigers, and birds. Multiple lattice windows adorn the courtyard walls. Currently serving as the headquarters of the Nanjing Military Region, the iron gates are usually kept closed.
