Beach access at night

Can you access the beaches 24 hours a day? We want to do some astrophotography at night and want to make sure we won’t be kicked off the beach. Thank you!

Yes, you can generally access the beaches on Jekyll Island 24 hours a day, and that includes for activities like astrophotography. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Public Beach Access Points: Jekyll Island has several public beach access points that remain open at all times. As long as you're not violating any specific local laws or ordinances, you should be able to access the beach for photography at night.
  • Parking: Some of the beach access areas may have limited parking at night or the parking lots could be gated after hours. Be sure to check the area before heading out to ensure there’s available parking.
  • Lighting and Safety: Since you'll be out at night, keep in mind that many areas of the beach will be dark. If you're doing astrophotography, be prepared with your own lighting and be cautious of wildlife or other environmental hazards.
  • Noise Ordinances: Jekyll Island and its local governing body typically have noise ordinances that might affect activities late at night. If you're planning to use equipment that could make noise, be mindful of local regulations.
  • Private Property: Some parts of the island, especially near resorts or specific developments, may have restricted access or private property boundaries. Stick to public areas to avoid any issues.

In summary, the beaches on Jekyll Island are generally accessible at night, but be aware of any restrictions on parking or specific local regulations. For astrophotography, it’s always a good idea to double-check parking availability and any temporary restrictions that may apply, especially around events or holidays. Enjoy your time under the stars!
