Girls weekend

Please help me narrow down a hotel choice! My friend and I (mid 40s) are coming for a girls weekend at the end of May. We are looking for quiet and relaxation mixed with a few nice meals and maybe a little tourism (the 15 person bike sounds fun!) and sightseeing. We were thinking about a trip to tybee bc I heard it’s beautiful and frankly, our kids don’t like the beach so it will be nice to just have a quiet beach day! Were will not have a car. Please share your recommendations! Which hotel (people have mentioned the Weston…how much of a pain is the water taxi! Will be be stock of wet go out at night and not be able to get back?) Will we be able to relax by the pool for a few hours each day? What are some other fun touristy things you’d recommend? Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like you’re planning a relaxing and fun getaway in Savannah! For a girls' weekend with a mix of relaxation, sightseeing, and great food, there are a number of excellent hotel options in the historic district, as well as some great day trips, like Tybee Island, to make the most of your visit. Here’s a breakdown of your options and some suggestions to help you decide.

Hotel Recommendations:

  • The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa: The Westin is a lovely option, especially if you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing experience. It’s located on Hutchinson Island, across the river from downtown Savannah. The hotel offers great amenities like a pool, spa, and golf course, and it's generally known for being peaceful. However, you’ll need to take the water taxi to get into the historic district, which is a quick, but sometimes unpredictable ride (especially if the weather isn’t great). The water taxi runs frequently during the day but stops at a certain hour, so if you plan to go out in the evening, you might want to consider taking a taxi or rideshare service back, just to avoid any inconvenience. The Westin also offers a nice, quiet pool area for relaxing, which could be perfect for your downtime.
  • The Kimpton Brice Hotel: If you want to be closer to the action and still have a relaxing stay, the Kimpton Brice is a great choice. It’s in a quieter area of the historic district but still within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and attractions. They have a lovely pool area and an on-site restaurant (The Tesoro Lounge) that is perfect for a relaxed dinner or cocktail. Kimpton hotels are known for their laid-back atmosphere, and you might enjoy the vibe here. It’s also pet-friendly, so if you like animals, it adds to the charm!
  • The Mansion on Forsyth Park: This hotel is located right across from Forsyth Park, and while it's a little more luxurious, it offers a peaceful setting with its beautiful courtyard and garden. It’s a bit quieter, but you’re still close to everything Savannah has to offer. The hotel also features a spa, which could be a great option for some extra relaxation. You won’t have to worry about transportation here since you’re in the heart of the historic district, making it easy to get around without a car.
  • The Andaz Savannah: Located right in the heart of the historic district, this hotel offers a perfect mix of modern amenities and Southern charm. It has a great pool area for relaxation, and you’re within walking distance of top attractions like River Street, Forsyth Park, and the beautiful squares of the historic district. The Andaz offers a fun yet relaxed atmosphere, and it’s a great option if you want to enjoy both leisure time and a little tourism at your doorstep.

Tybee Island Day Trip:

Tybee Island is a beautiful and relaxing spot for a day trip. Since you won’t have a car, there are a few transportation options available. You can take a shuttle from Savannah to Tybee Island, which operates throughout the day and is a convenient way to get there without the hassle of parking. Once you’re on Tybee, you can enjoy the quiet beach and laid-back atmosphere. Some of the resorts on the island offer beach chairs and umbrellas, so you can just sit back and relax for a few hours. If you’re looking for a peaceful beach day, Tybee is the perfect choice!

Other Fun Activities:

  • Bike Tour: The 15-person bike ride you mentioned sounds like a fun way to see Savannah in a unique way! You can book a guided bike tour of the historic district and learn about the city's history while having fun with your group. It’s also a great way to see some of the off-the-beaten-path spots in the city.
  • Riverboat Cruise: Another relaxing activity to consider is a riverboat cruise along the Savannah River. It’s a great way to enjoy some beautiful views of the city from the water, and it’s a nice break from walking around the city. Some riverboat cruises offer lunch or dinner, making it a great way to combine sightseeing with a meal.
  • Savannah Ghost Tour: If you’re in the mood for something a little spooky, consider taking a ghost tour of Savannah’s historic district. Savannah is known for its haunted history, and many tours are available in the evenings. It’s a fun and informative way to see the city after dark.
  • Explore Forsyth Park: One of Savannah’s most iconic landmarks, Forsyth Park is a must-visit for a peaceful stroll. The park features a beautiful fountain, large oak trees draped with Spanish moss, and plenty of space to relax. You can also enjoy lunch at one of the nearby cafes, such as The Collins Quarter.

In Conclusion:

If you're looking for a relaxed weekend with a mix of downtime and a few activities, the Westin and the Kimpton Brice are both great choices, but keep in mind the water taxi situation at the Westin. Tybee Island will offer a quiet beach day, and Savannah’s historic district has plenty of cultural and fun activities. With a few meals at great restaurants, you’re sure to have a wonderful girls' weekend!
