Luggage storage on a weekday

We will be using public transportation and staying at a family members thirty minutes outside Boston. On our last day we will have our carry on suitcases with us but our flight doesn’t leave until 3:30 PM (US), and later for Canada. We thought we could fit in some sight seeing in the morning either at Harvard or in Boston. We will already have spent two full days in Boston.

1-Is there luggage storage in Boston near tourist sights? Ie freedom trail or the waterfront?

2-Is there luggage storage near Harvard?

3- How early do you recommend being at the airport for flights to the US and flights to Canada? Thx.

Boston is very manageable for a last-day sightseeing trip even with luggage, thanks to several convenient storage options and efficient transit connections. Here’s a detailed guide:

1) Luggage storage near tourist sights:

Several luggage storage services exist in Boston, often near major tourist areas like the Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall, and the Waterfront. These services are usually offered by local shops or third-party providers and operate on an hourly or daily basis. You can drop off carry-on bags for a few hours while you explore.

  • Look for “Boston Luggage Storage” services through apps like LuggageHero, Vertoe, or Bounce. They have multiple locations near downtown, the Waterfront, and train stations.
  • Some major hotels near downtown Boston may offer luggage storage for a fee, even if you’re not staying there—worth calling ahead.

2) Luggage storage near Harvard:

Harvard Square is very walkable and has a few luggage storage options, although fewer than downtown. Options include:

  • Third-party luggage storage providers listed on apps like LuggageHero or Bounce, typically within a few blocks of Harvard Square.
  • Harvard University itself doesn’t provide public luggage storage, so plan to use one of the commercial services.

3) Airport arrival recommendations:

For flights departing Boston Logan International Airport:

  • Domestic (US) flights: Arrive at least 2 hours before departure. Logan has multiple terminals, TSA lines can vary, and traffic to the airport may take additional time.
  • International flights (including Canada): Arrive at least 3 hours before departure. Customs and security take longer, and airlines generally recommend additional time for check-in for international travel.

Additional tips:

  • Consider using public transportation (MBTA subway/commuter rail) to reach downtown Boston from outside the city—traffic to Logan can be unpredictable.
  • If you’re using luggage storage services, reserve online in advance to ensure availability, especially on weekdays when commuter traffic can increase demand.
  • Plan a flexible morning itinerary—both Harvard Square and the Freedom Trail can be visited in a few hours without rushing, especially if you’re only seeing highlights.

With luggage storage downtown or near Harvard, you can enjoy a morning of sightseeing stress-free and still make it to Logan Airport with plenty of time for security and check-in.
