We are flying from Fort Lauderdale to Boston on Delta so it looks like it will arrive at Terminal A. We then have a connecting flight with ITA to Rome, which I am assuming will leave out of Terminal E. Our layover time is 3hr 15mins. Since it is a connecting flight, and our bags will be checked through from Fort Lauderdale, I am assuming we will not need to check in again at Terminal E, correct? So, we will just need to leave Terminal A, either walk or take the bus to Terminal E and go thru security at Terminal E, correct? I have never connected at an airport where you have to go back thru security for a connection so just trying to understand what to expect when we get there. I am assuming 3 hrs is enough time to accomplish this and still have time to spend in the lounge before take-off. Thank you for any information you can provide me with!
Connecting at Boston Logan Airport from Terminal A (Delta) to Terminal E (ITA Airways) is a common international connection. Here’s what you can expect based on standard procedures at Logan:
Baggage: Since your bags are checked through from Fort Lauderdale to Rome, you generally will not need to collect and recheck them at Terminal E. Your bags should be automatically transferred to your ITA Airways flight. Make sure to confirm this with Delta at check-in in Fort Lauderdale.
Getting from Terminal A to Terminal E: Terminals at Logan are connected via the Logan Airport Shuttle and pedestrian walkways. Here are the main options:
Security: Yes, you will need to go through TSA security again at Terminal E before boarding your international flight. Logan does not allow connections through domestic terminals without clearing security when switching to an international terminal.
Timing: A 3-hour 15-minute layover is generally sufficient for this connection, provided your incoming flight arrives on time. Here’s a rough breakdown:
Tips:
In summary, your plan is correct: you will not recheck bags, but you will go through security at Terminal E. The 3-hour layover gives you plenty of buffer to move between terminals, clear security, and enjoy some lounge time before your international flight.
