Activities with kids November near kalispell
Hi there we are traveling to kalispell November 15-23rd and are curious what we can take our 3 and 10 year old to do while there since we aren’t sure what the weather will look like! Any suggestions would be helpful.
Visiting Kalispell in mid-November can be a wonderful family trip, though the weather is likely to be cold, with potential snow or icy conditions. Average temperatures range from lows in the 20s°F (-6°C) to highs in the 40s°F (4–9°C). It’s important to dress in layers and be prepared for winter-like conditions. Even so, there are plenty of activities suitable for young children both indoors and outdoors.
Here are some options to enjoy with a 3- and 10-year-old in and around Kalispell:
- Hockaday Museum of Art: Located in downtown Kalispell, this small museum features local and regional art and is very family-friendly. Kids can enjoy interactive exhibits and colorful displays, and it’s a good indoor activity if the weather is cold.
- Conrad Mansion Museum: A historic home offering guided tours and insights into early Kalispell life. While children may not stay interested for very long, the architecture and period rooms are visually engaging and educational.
- Flathead Lake: Even in November, driving around the lake offers scenic views, and a short walk along the shore can be refreshing. Check for safe and accessible areas as some lakeside facilities may be closed for winter.
For outdoor adventure or active indoor options, consider:
- Whitefish Mountain Resort: By mid-November, early-season skiing or snow play may be available. Even if lifts are not fully open, there are often opportunities for sledding or playing in the snow if it has started to accumulate.
- Glacier National Park (west side - Apgar Visitor Center area): Some lower elevation areas are accessible in November, though higher roads like Going-to-the-Sun Road may be closed due to snow. Short walks along accessible trails like the Trail of the Cedars can be family-friendly and scenic.
- Local Indoor Play Spaces: Check out community centers or indoor play areas in Kalispell, which often have activities for younger children, especially during colder months.
Additional tips for a mid-November trip:
- Check weather forecasts daily and be prepared for sudden snow or icy roads.
- Layer clothing, gloves, hats, and waterproof boots for kids to keep them warm and comfortable.
- Consider alternating indoor and outdoor activities to balance energy and keep kids engaged.
- Many attractions may have reduced hours in November, so call ahead or check online before planning your day.
Even with shorter days and cooler weather, Kalispell and the surrounding Flathead Valley offer beautiful scenery, fun indoor attractions, and opportunities for light outdoor exploration that can be enjoyable for both a 3- and 10-year-old.
