Dining and Attractions ???

Hi everyone,

We'll be coming to St. Louis for a game in a few weeks. We're staying right next to CityPark Stadium.

What are some great dining places and attractions?

Also, are there any areas we should avoid?

Thanks!

Staying near CityPark Stadium in St. Louis puts you in a convenient spot to enjoy both local dining and nearby attractions. The area around the stadium has some options, but venturing a bit further will give you a richer experience of the city.

Dining Recommendations:

  • BBQ & Local Fare: Pappy’s Smokehouse is a must-visit for classic St. Louis BBQ, located about 10-15 minutes drive from downtown. For a more casual spot, Bogart’s Smokehouse is another great option.
  • Italian Cuisine: The Hill neighborhood is famous for Italian dining. Try Charlie Gitto’s or Cunetto House of Pasta for classic Italian dishes and local flair.
  • Upscale Dining & American Fare: Niche or Sidney Street Cafe in the Lafayette Square area offer contemporary American menus with excellent service.
  • Quick Bites & Local Favorites: Crown Candy Kitchen is perfect for a quick meal and dessert, famous for their old-fashioned sandwiches and malted milkshakes.

Attractions:

  • Gateway Arch: Iconic and a must-see. You can take the tram to the top for panoramic views of the city and Mississippi River.
  • City Museum: A fun, interactive museum for adults and kids alike with climbing structures and art installations.
  • Forest Park: One of the largest urban parks in the U.S., home to the Saint Louis Zoo (free), Art Museum, Science Center, and Muny theater.
  • Basilica of St. Louis, King: A stunning cathedral with beautiful mosaics, located a short drive from downtown.
  • Delmar Loop: A vibrant area for walking, shopping, and dining with a mix of music venues, bars, and eateries.

Areas to be Cautious About:

  • While St. Louis is generally safe in tourist-heavy areas, some neighborhoods near and north of downtown, especially after dark, can be less safe. Always check local updates or ask your hotel staff for current advice.
  • Stick to well-lit, populated areas when walking at night.

Overall, staying near CityPark Stadium gives you easy access to downtown attractions, good restaurants, and cultural sites. Planning a few short drives or rideshares will allow you to fully enjoy the best of St. Louis while avoiding less safe areas.
