Given your 3 days in Beijing (excluding the Mutianyu Great Wall day), here’s a suggested itinerary that balances sightseeing with an easy-going pace:

Day 1: Central Beijing – Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City

  • Start your day at Tiananmen Square early in the morning to avoid crowds. Spend about 1–1.5 hours exploring the square and its monuments.
  • Enter the Forbidden City (just across from Tiananmen). Allocate 3–4 hours to see the main halls, courtyards, and exhibitions.
  • Walk along Wangfujing Street in the late afternoon or evening (your hotel is right there) for dinner and shopping.

Day 2: Temples – Lama Temple & Temple of Heaven

  • Start with the Lama Temple (Yonghegong). Spend 1–2 hours appreciating the Buddhist architecture and atmosphere.
  • After lunch, head to the Temple of Heaven. Allocate around 2–3 hours to explore the park, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, and other historical buildings.
  • This day is less crowded and allows for a slower pace, giving you time to enjoy Beijing’s cultural sites without rushing.

Day 3: Summer Palace

  • Dedicate this day to the Summer Palace. Arrive early to explore the gardens, lakes, pavilions, and the Long Corridor. Expect 3–4 hours at a comfortable pace.
  • Consider taking a boat ride on Kunming Lake if weather permits.
  • Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. This allows flexibility for a relaxed evening or additional sightseeing if desired.

Additional Tips:

  • Use taxis or ride-hailing apps to save time between sites; the subway is also convenient but can be crowded.
  • Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking, especially in the Forbidden City and Summer Palace.
  • Carry a small bottle of water and snacks, particularly on the Summer Palace day.
  • Mutianyu Great Wall is best done as a full day trip separately, which you have already planned.

This sequence groups attractions by proximity and type, minimizing back-and-forth travel and keeping each day relaxed yet fulfilling.
