When it comes to hiring a camper or RV for a Route 66 road trip, there are a few well-established companies that have good reputations for providing reliable vehicles and customer service. While you’ll find several options through Google, here are some companies that consistently get positive reviews for their camper and RV rentals. Each has different strengths depending on your needs (budget, vehicle size, pick-up/drop-off locations, etc.):
Things to consider when renting an RV for Route 66:
1. Pick-up and drop-off locations: Make sure the rental company has a pick-up location in Chicago (or where you’ll begin your trip) and the flexibility to drop it off where your journey ends. Some companies may charge extra for one-way rentals, so ask about this in advance.
2. Vehicle size: Larger RVs offer more space but can be harder to navigate, especially if you plan to visit smaller towns on Route 66. Consider how comfortable you’ll be driving and parking in tight spaces.
3. Insurance and extras: Most companies offer insurance options, but be sure to check what’s covered. Some also offer optional extras like GPS, campgrounds, or kitchen kits to enhance your trip.
4. Reviews: Always check reviews for both the company and the specific RV you plan to rent. Customers often leave feedback on the cleanliness, comfort, and condition of the vehicles, which can help you avoid surprises on your trip.
If you’re planning on traveling during peak times (summer or holidays), it’s a good idea to book your RV at least 3-6 months in advance, as availability can get tight and prices can rise.
Hope this helps with your planning, and enjoy your Route 66 adventure!
